Cost breakdown · FOB Shenzhen, 2026

The cost of an LED video wall usually arrives as a single number, and that number tells you nothing about whether the wall will work. This page takes the same 16 m² indoor wall apart into eight cost lines, shows what each one is worth, and puts the factory-direct total next to the turnkey integrator total so you can see where the difference actually lives.

## LED video wall price: three different numbers get called “the price”

Before comparing two quotes, check which of three numbers each one is — the LED video wall price you are being shown may be any one of them. **Panel price** is the LED cabinets alone, per square foot or square metre, FOB. **Hardware package** adds the video processor, receiving cards, cabling and mounting structure, still uninstalled. **Turnkey price** adds labour, commissioning, electrical work and a warranty reserve, and is what a local integrator quotes.

The gap between the first and the third is routinely two to three times, and almost none of it is the LEDs. A 16 m² P2.5 wall is roughly **$11,000–16,500 in panels**, **$19,000–27,000 as a shipped hardware package**, and **$35,000–55,000 installed**. Same wall, same pitch, same brightness. Knowing which number you are looking at is the single most useful thing on this page.

Our main [LED video wall systems](https://jdxtech.com/led-video-wall/) page covers pitch, formats and installation routes. This page stays on money.

## 1. Panel price, by pitch

Panel price is set almost entirely by LED density. Doubling the pixel count per square metre roughly doubles the component cost before you add anything else, which is why the fine-pitch steps are steep and the outdoor steps are flat.

| Application | Pitch band | Cost driver | Share of a 16 m² project |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Indoor fine pitch | P0.78–P2.9 | LED density; COB or MIP packaging below P1.5; tighter flatness tolerance on the cabinet | 55–65% |
| Indoor mid pitch | P3–P3.91 | Cabinet volume, not LED count — the price flattens out here | 45–55% |
| Outdoor | P4–P10 | IP65 sealing, high-brightness LED bins, cooling design, higher power supply headroom | 40–55% |
| Rental | P2.6–P5.95 | Lighter cabinet alloy, durable locks, flight-case packaging planned into the order | 50–60% |

Three published anchors from our own product pages, so you can sanity-check any quote you receive: **indoor P2.5 panels run $60–95 per square foot** factory-direct in 2026; the fine pitch range starts at **$1,350 per m²** at its widest pitch; the Matrix indoor fixed platform starts at **$710 per m²**; outdoor starts at **$615 per m²**.

The most common quoting error we see is a buyer comparing a P2.5 panel price against a P1.5 panel price and concluding one supplier is expensive. At the same size those are different products, roughly three times apart, and the difference is entirely in the LED count nobody can see from six metres away.

## 2. Panel cost by wall size

The same three pitches across five common wall sizes, panel-only, FOB Shenzhen. Area scales linearly; nothing here has a volume discount built in, and nothing here hides a minimum order.

| Wall size | Area | P2.5 (viewing ≥ 8 ft) | P3 (≥ 10 ft) | P4 (≥ 13 ft) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 8 × 4.5 ft | 2.4 × 1.4 m · 3.4 m² | $2,400–3,600 | $1,700–2,600 | $1,300–2,000 |
| 10 × 5.6 ft | 3 × 1.7 m · 5.2 m² | $3,600–5,400 | $2,600–3,900 | $2,000–3,000 |
| 13 × 7.4 ft | 4 × 2.25 m · 9 m² | $6,200–9,300 | $4,400–6,700 | $3,400–5,100 |
| 17.5 × 10 ft | 5.3 × 3 m · 16 m² | $11,000–16,500 | $7,800–11,700 | $6,000–9,000 |
| 23 × 13 ft | 7 × 4 m · 28 m² | $19,000–28,500 | $13,500–20,300 | $10,400–15,600 |

Same matrix we publish on our [church LED screen cost breakdown](https://jdxtech.com/church-led-screen-cost/), where the room-by-room reasoning is worked through in more detail. Prices are panels and cabinets only.

## 3. The eight cost lines, on a 16 m² wall

This is the part that a per-square-metre price hides. Each line below is a real cost on a mid-size indoor P2.5 project, and the last two columns show who pays for it in each buying model.

| Cost line | Range | Factory-direct | Local integrator |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| LED panels and cabinets | $11,000–16,500 | you pay this | bundled |
| Video processor | $600–2,500 | you pay this | bundled |
| Receiving cards and cabling | $200–500 | you pay this | bundled |
| Mounting structure | $800–3,000 | you pay this | bundled |
| Ocean freight | $800–1,500 | you pay this | — |
| Duty and clearance | $400–700 | you pay this | — |
| Local labour and electrical | $3,000–6,000 | you buy locally | included |
| Spares, commissioning, warranty reserve | $500–1,500 | your choice | included |
| Total | — | $19,000–27,000 | $35,000–55,000 |

**The processor is not optional and not cheap.** At 16 m² and P2.5 you are driving roughly 1,950 pixels wide, which is one 4K output with no headroom. Multiply the wall by two and you need a second output card — a line item that appears in a serious quote and disappears in a lazy one.

**Structure varies threefold.** A wall-mount frame on a load-bearing wall is the cheapest line in the table; a recessed installation designed in during fit-out is the most expensive, because it adds first-fix coordination and finishing work by other trades.

**Electrical is the line buyers under-budget.** A 16 m² wall draws 3–8 kW in full white. If the room needs a new dedicated circuit, that is an electrician's invoice and a permit, arriving after the screen does.

## 4. Five costs that are not in the quote

None of these are dishonest omissions — they sit outside the scope of whoever quoted you. They are still your money, and they add 10–25% to the project.

Spares you did not order

Budget 10% extra modules, about 5% of order value. A panel series has a production life; when one module fails in year three and the series is gone, the spare set you bought with the wall is the difference between a repair and a re-panel.

The rigging or load survey

Hanging a wall from a truss or an unknown ceiling needs an engineer's sign-off, and that is a separate local invoice. It is also the step most likely to delay installation, because it cannot start until someone measures the structure.

Content and commissioning

Someone has to configure the processor, build the presets, label the inputs and train the operator. On a corporate wall that is a day of integrator time; on a volunteer-run church wall it is the single biggest driver of whether the screen gets used properly.

Access equipment

A 16 m² wall mounted above 3 metres needs a lift or scaffold to install and to service. That rental rarely appears in an AV quote, and it recurs every time a module needs replacing.

Currency and payment terms

A quote in USD with a 30% deposit and balance before shipment carries a different real cost from a local quote in your own currency with 60-day terms. If cash flow matters, compare the two including the financing cost, not just the headline number.

## 5. Buying versus renting, in numbers

A rental LED video wall is not a cheaper purchase — it is a different ownership model. Rental cabinets cost more per square metre than fixed cabinets of the same pitch, because the alloy is lighter, the locks are stronger and the packaging is flight cases. You pay that premium for transportability.

| Situation | Better route | Why |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Wall is used more than 20 days a year in the same room | Buy fixed | Rental fees pass the purchase price within roughly two to three years, and a fixed wall can be specified for the room |
| Fewer than 10 event days a year, different venues | Rent locally | You avoid storage, transport damage and the need for a technician on payroll |
| Touring or recurring events with your own crew | Buy rental | Rental stock pays back on utilisation, and owning it removes availability risk on peak dates |
| One-off launch or exhibition | Rent | No residual value, no storage, no spares to hold |

## 6. Where to cut 15% without wrecking the wall

Every project has a budget conversation. These four moves reduce cost without reducing what the audience sees. The fifth is the one that does damage.

**1. Widen the pitch by one step.** The single largest saving available, often 30–40%. It is only safe if you know the nearest viewing distance and the wall is not on camera. Measure it, do not guess it.

**2. Drop from curved custom cabinets to segmented flat.** A gentle curve built from flat cabinets on a faceted frame saves the custom tooling, at the cost of a visible facet at the joints. On a large wall at distance, most viewers never notice.

**3. Choose wall mount over recessed.** Same screen, materially less structural work, and it can be installed after the fit-out rather than coordinated into it.

**4. Buy the processor one size up, cut elsewhere.** The processor is the one line where under-buying costs you again later — a second output card retrofit usually costs more than the upgrade would have.

**Do not cut the spares.** It is 5% of the order and it is the difference between a five-year wall and a two-year wall. This is the line that looks like a saving and is not.

## Cost questions, answered straight

### How much does an LED video wall cost per square foot?

Indoor P2.5 panels run about $60–95 per square foot factory-direct in 2026. Outdoor panels of comparable pitch are higher because of IP65 sealing and brightness binning; fine pitch below P1.5 is higher again because of the LED density and packaging.

### Is the LED panel the biggest cost?

On a factory-direct hardware package it is 55–65% of the total. On a turnkey integrator quote the panel share drops to roughly a third, because labour, commissioning and warranty reserve take the rest. That shift is the clearest signal of which buying model a quote comes from.

### Why is one quote half the price of another for the same size?

Almost always one of four things: a different pitch, panels only versus a hardware package, excluding freight and duty, or a different driver IC and LED brand. Ask for the pitch, the driver model and the LED brand in writing before comparing totals.

### Does a bigger order get a discount?

Panel pricing is largely linear with area, but cabinet cost per square metre falls slightly at volume because the fixed tooling and setup are amortised. Freight is where volume changes the economics most: above roughly 20 m² a full container usually beats LCL on both cost and damage risk.

### What does installation usually cost?

Local labour and electrical on a 16 m² wall runs about $3,000–6,000 in most Western markets, and access equipment is often billed separately. We supply the cabinet layout and a dimensioned structural drawing; the installing contractor quotes against that drawing.

### Can I start with a sample and buy the rest later?

Yes. A one or two square metre sample with the processor lets you test brightness, colour and viewing angle on your own content. Sample cost is normally credited against the production order, so the only real cost is the freight.

## Price your actual wall

Send the wall width and height, the nearest viewing distance, wall construction and whether it will be on camera. You will get an itemised quote with the eight lines above itemised separately — panels, processor, receiving, structure, freight, duty — so you can compare it line by line with any other quote instead of comparing totals.
